US$95.00 per person

This unique national park, the ONLY national park in the world to be located in a major city is just 10 minute’s drive from the city centre. A typical savannah habitat,  it is one of the best places in Kenya to see black rhinos whilst also featuring lions, giraffes, hippos, cheetahs, leopards, buffalos, crocodiles, plentiful plains game and 400 species of birds. The park also offers the superb Safari Walk Animal Sanctuary and the charming Animal Orphanage as well as a complex of restaurants and shops.

Tuesday 08 June 2010
DAPHNE SHELDRICK’S ORPHANAGE/KAREN BLIXEN MUSEUM/ GIRRAFE MANOR - 10h00 – Full day

US$130.00 per person

Located in Nairobi Game Park in Kenya is Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage, originally started by famous naturalist David Sheldrick. Visitors to the park can see the young elephants interacting with their keepers – playing, taking mud baths and being fed with milk. This is a wonderful sight to watch and a wonderful way to get up close to the babies and observe their playful habits, something which isn’t always possible − or safe − in the wild.

From here we move to the foot of the Ngong Hills, which featured in Karen Blixen’s famous book ‘Out of Africa’, which was later made into the film starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. Stroll around the gardens and rooms of Karen’s charming old house, which is now a national museum, before moving on to the nearby Jock Leslie-Melville Nature Education Centre, which is a sanctuary for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Here you can not only feed the giraffes from the central information centre, which features a giraffe-height feeding platform, but you can also learn more about their way of life.

Thereafter you will be taken to the leafy suburbs of Karen and Langata where Matt Bronze makes stunning wildlife sculptures. Then we drive the short distance to Kazuri beads where jewellery is handmade by local women. Visit the workshop and meet the women as they work then on to Marula studios which offers a collection of handmade items made of recycled waste products.

LAKE NAKURU & LAKE NAIVASHA EXPRESS - 07h00 – Full day
US$215.00 per person

Lake Nakuru lies in the volcano-strewn Rift Valley, one of the chains of 8 lakes which stretch the length of Kenya from Tanzania to Ethiopia. The 160 km drive from Nairobi passes through the highland farms of the Kikuyu people before descending the escarpment into the dramatic landscape of the Great Rift Valley. The first stop is the Lake Nakuru, where is to be found the most awesome bird spectacle in the world – millions of great and lesser flamingoes which transform the shores of the lake into a breathtaking ‘carpet’. Lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, thereafter a game drive around the lake and the protected Park which has a sanctuary for endangered animal species such as the Black and White Rhino and Rothschild Giraffe among others. A brief stopover for afternoon tea served in the scenic and lush grounds of the Lake Naivasha Country Club. Thereafter continue back to Nairobi where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
